Arkansas Nuclear One – Unit 2 Pressurizer Replacement Project

Barnhart was selected to design the methodology and provide rigging and transportation services for the Pressurizer Replacement at a US Nuclear Power Plant. As with most nuclear projects the space available for the movement of this major component was limited. Moving the pressurizer through containment and out of the equipment hatch required custom solutions. The removal and replacement of the pressurizer required the use of purpose built tailing saddles working in tandem with Barnhart’s Rigger Lift 120 forklift. Once outside the containment building the pressurizer was lifted onto Barnhart’s Goldhofer trailer using a 500 ton hydraulic crane. It was then transported to the turbine building where it was lifted by an onsite crane and placed in the Gondola rail car. The process was then reversed for the installation of the new pressurizer. The rigging portion of the project finished ahead of schedule and with zero injuries, first aids or near misses.
